About the Founder

Dr. Ashish Atreja, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.P., A.G.A.F., is not a theorist. He has lived the transformation he teaches. As the inaugural Chief Digital Health Officer at UC Davis Health, he unified enterprise IT and innovation — leading the institution to become the first in California to achieve Level 10 Most Wired status for both inpatient and ambulatory care.

He coined the term "Evidence-Based Digital Medicine" and pioneered the EHR-integrated digital health platform at Mount Sinai, enabling clinicians to prescribe mobile apps and AI bots exactly as they would medications. This work earned two patents, an NPR feature, and the nickname that followed him everywhere: The App Doctor.

Dr. Atreja founded Rx.Health — a venture-backed spinout that impacted over 30 million patient lives including UnitedHealthcare and five of the top ten health systems before its successful acquisition. He then launched VALIDAI.Health, uniting 58+ health systems to responsibly implement generative AI. Today as CEO of GenServe.AI, he leads the AI Center of Excellence network redefining how health systems execute AI strategy.

Over 105 peer-reviewed publications, continuous NIH funding since 2014, and advisory roles at the CDC, the American College of Cardiology, ONC, HL7 FHIR FAST, and Fortune 100 companies. He brings every single hard-won lesson directly to Future & Health cohort members.
